Young Adult Dark Urban Fantasy Author ~

Let the story ride?

Am I concentrating on the right book? Are you?

I put my heart into my recent novel. My time–sooo much time–my energy and my focus, and I’ve begun the second book in the series. But I continually come back to my original novel–the one I began forever ago and walked away from. The one that is so damn hard to write. It nags at me. Throws ideas in my face and sits there all the time in my head. And I wonder if I shouldn’t bite the bullet and just write it.

If you had one chance at publication, just one, what would you want to say? Could you say it? Should you?

Not all of our book ideas wrap themselves up in neat little packages with cute bows. Some are edgy and raw. Some are hard to talk about–and harder to write.

Is there a line in the writers sand? Do Not Cross. Or do you let your story ride?

If what you need to say most, is the hardest thing to say…do you still say it?

I think so. Yeah, I think you do.

Comments, thoughts? Love to hear your views:)

  1. I have walked away from so many stories. Some are gems that I plan to return to shortly – when I have finished my WIP, some are just a reminder that not everything works.

I do have one, YA fiction, that I absolutely love. I have written just the first three chapters, but I do have almost the full synopsis sorted. It is so very hard to write that I have to leave it for now, I am not sure when I will be able to return, maybe once (if) I have the confirmation that my writing really is worthy. Why? Well, the background needs more research than anything I have ever done before, and to get the ‘real’ insight, I need a lot, and I mean, a lot of outside help.

But yeah, sometimes that line in the sand just has to be crossed.

    • Elena…, You’re writing is worthy! Goodness…I just wrote a post about that subject somewhere recently. No doubts…you just do your thing;) It doesn’t have to be tomorrow.

My big piece that I’ve walked away from so many times, it’s been yearssss. You can always come back I think. I’ll be crossing that line in the sand at some point, it’s inevitable I believe.

      Thanks as always for sharing;)

      • Sometimes it has to be tomorrow..well for me. I can’t cross over between multiple WIP. Well, not when one is running along quite nicely. No matter how strong the pull, I must stick until I have worn the current one out.

Oh, and thanks as always for writing great posts!
