TIED Blurb:

Normal people don’t believe their nightmares stalk them. They don’t fall in love with boys who don’t exist, either.

Seventeen-year-old Layla Labelle, though, is far from normal. Her delusions walk the earth. Her hallucinations hunt her, and her skin heats to a burn every time her anger flares.

Or is that all in her head?

Layla doesn’t know what to believe any more because if none of that’s true, Max MacLarnon must be an illusion, and her heart must still be broken.

No matter how much she wants to believe Max is real, doing so would mean everything else is, too. How, then, is that possible?

The answers lie in an age-old legend the supernatural aren’t prepared to reveal, and with a curse that could tear Layla and Max apart forever—if it doesn’t kill them both first.

In TIED, book one in the Fire Born trilogy, learning the truth will mean fighting an arsenal of demons, and being with Max will put Layla on a path toward her own destruction.

Just how far will Layla go to protect the one she loves?

The answer may never be far enough … away.

PERRY ROAD Blurb:

In 2132, “We the people …” means nothing, and it hasn’t for a hundred years.

Like all the citizens of the American Union, eighteen-year-old Erianna Keating is not to ask questions. She is not to believe anything except what the A.U. tells her. More importantly, she’s not supposed to know what she doesn’t know, nor that she’s a pawn.

Like everyone else, though, she is, and like everyone else, she is a hundred percent oblivious to what’s going on.

Or is she? Are they?

Erianna thinks going to Perry Road and joining the national registration program is her next step toward adulthood; the 2132 candidates for adult-classification, though, are in for a big surprise. Especially Erianna.

Thanks to Zane Warren, an awkward but hot guy who won’t shut up about a history that doesn’t—orshouldn’t—matter anymore, Erianna will know. Will learn. That includes finding out what actually happens after registration and doing something, anything, about it.

Fixing what went wrong, what caused the U.S.A. to split into two countries, though, is not on Erianna’s bucket list, but as she faces her future, she must decide whether to fall in line with the American Union’s plan for her, or to consider that Zane might not be wrong, and the time for revolution begins now.

Can’t wait for this to release! I’m an Emi Gayle fan and loved both YA novels from her, AFTER DARK & DAY AFTER, so I’m really excited about this book.

If you want to add it to your TBR list on Goodreads, here you go: Add to Goodreads

About the Author, Emi Gayle:

I had a really great bio in my head around midnight one night …. right before I fell asleep and it disappeared into the nothingness of unconsciousness. Bummer. So here’s something less well thought out.

I want to be young again, so I’m kinda sorta living it again. At least on paper. You see, I write paranormal romance. Now, that stuff can get really hot, and really gritty and well … mine does. But! My characters are teenagers, 18 and under. Like I was once … and want to be again.

Why would I want to be a teenager again? Geez. Because! If you met the man of your dreams at 14 was engaged to him at 19 and married him at 20, wouldn’t YOU want to do all that over again? Especially if you were still in love with him? I mean, c’mon! It’s love! That’s why I write, too.

You see… just because you pass a certain age doesn’t mean you forget what it was like to be 14, 15, etc. Actually, because I kinda grew up with my husband, we both still feel like the 14 and 17 year old kids we once were. So that’s where I’m coming from. You might think it’s totally lame, but you know what? That’s ok! Maybe you’ll like my other me instead. 😉

DAY AFTER #GIVEAWAY and Interview with Emi Gayle! #YA

Today I have another special treat! Emi Gayle is here to talk about DAY AFTER, the 2nd book in the 19th Year Trilogy. And she’s doing a Giveaway!

I’ve sung the praises of DAY AFTER here on the blog, so I’m so excited to have Emi here to give you guys the goods on this awesome YA series.

Let’s get started!

Me: Hi, Emi! Glad to have you here today. Tell us about Day After. How is it different from After Dark? Can we expect any surprises that you can share?

Emi: It’s most different in that the character that tells the story is Winn. In After Dark, Mac told the story and now Winn, the lead human in the overall trilogy, is our narrator.

There are tons of surprises and probably a bunch of things people will figure out. My biggest personal surprises came in how Winn reacts and how Mac grows. She truly was a selfish immature girl despite her saying otherwise and in Day After, she will … let’s say … mature.

********

Me: I know who my favorite character is in the book. 😉 Who’s yours and why?

Emi: Well, Mac and Winn always take the top spots, but I have to say I also love Suze. He’s just … well … he’s just so much a contradiction of himself. He’s big and strong and a little loopy.

********

Me: What inspired you to write the series?

Emi: It was just an idea about a girl who’d have to choose what to be forever and is that possible when you’re just 19 making all these decisions. Seems easy, it’s not. Not even at 39!

********

Me: Agreed! Okay, fun stuff. Plotter or Pantser? Why?

Emi: 100% Pantser. I can’t plot. I let my story tell itself. It comes out how it comes out.

********

Me: Coffee or Tea?

Emi: Tea!

Me: Me too! Sweet. 😉

********

Me: Print or E-book?

Emi: Ebook

********

Me: What books are you reading?

Emi: Given how busy work has me right now, I’m reading all the J. Taylor ARCs! LOL

********

Me: When you’re not writing, you are?

Emi: Working. Mom. Photographer. All the other stuff that goes along with those things. 🙂

********

Me: Fantasy or Paranormal?

Emi: Paranormal.

********

Me: Any tips you can give aspiring authors?

Emi: Just keep writing. Like Dori in Nemo … just keep writing, just keep writing …

********

Thanks so much for sharing with us today!

DayAfterDay After

The 19th Year

by Emi Gayle

Release Date: May 6, 2013

Target Reader: Young Adult

Keywords: Paranormal Romance, Romance

Blurb

Demon crypts. Vampire lairs. Glowing angels. Sexy sirens. The stuff of fiction.

Or so Winn Thomas always thought.

Since being accepted into the fold of the supernatural, he knows better. None of what he imagined is true, but everything he feared is, and binding himself to his Changeling girlfriend until her nineteenth birthday will give him an education far beyond what he’d get at his human high school.

Luckily, Winn’s not giving up, he won’t back down, and he definitely isn’t going to run away with his tail between his legs. After all, only werewolves have tails. Right?

In this, the second of the 19th Year trilogy, Winn’s facing the challenge of one lifetime. If he doesn’t learn the truth about mythological creatures, his girlfriend Mac Thorne won’t either. That means, in six months, when she chooses her final form, she won’t know what to pick.

Winn, though, has his own ideas about Mac’s final selection—plans she knows nothing of.

He intends to have her pick human.

Whether she can or not.

Sitting in front of the twelve most powerful non-humans on the earth would have shaken a lesser guy. In my case, I’d almost thrown up. Twice.

‘Don’t worry,’ Mackenzie Thorne, my girlfriend, had said. ’‘It’s just a formality.

She hadn’t known I’d have to go alone.

Only the intake and exhalation of air in the room made any sound. Eerie light flickered from the tips of candles mounted along dark, oak-paneled walls.

I refused to look anywhere but ahead of me. To the long, wooden, medieval-length table.

Waiting.

Watching.

Holding my own breath.

For a moment, it seemed the walls began to close in on me.

At almost midnight on the first day of the year, I prepared to accept a fate no other human had ever taken on, been given or even offered. In response, sweat pooled under my armpits as alternating cold and hot ran through me.

The scratch of wood against wood had heads turning. Mine included.

Nahir, the oldest of the twelve, rose from his chair. “Winford Richmond Thomas, please rise.” His voice had a gravelly, hoarse sound.

I did as requested, my knees pressing against each other.

Nahir moved closer to me, his grandfatherly, human form disappearing under protruding scales of deep green. His arms lengthened into dinosaur-like paws and hit the rock floor, making the room around us shake. Thick wings extended from his body, and a tail lashed out against the wall behind him, rattling the candles.

A dragon, in the color of tropical ocean water, stood before me, huffing air from horse-sized nostrils.

Oh. God. I’m going to die.

Not going to die. It’s part of the test. Remember, you have to see them all. Mac’s words flowed through my mind.

Keep breathing.

“Master Thomas.” Josie, a siren and one of the most beautiful women I’d ever met, rose, her long flowing gown matching the color of her reddish-gold hair. I couldn’t help but stare at her. “You’ve been asked by our current changeling, Miss Maya Mackenzie Thorne, to be her teacher. Have you willingly agreed to take on this duty?” As Josie talked, she stalked forward, shimmering, shifting, the already-pretty woman becoming deadly man-hunting female—according to the legends I’d read.

Vibes ebbed from her like the rocking tide. If she sang, throwing up would be the least of my worries. I’d be dead by sexual self-implosion.

With a rough cough, I gathered my wits. “Yes. I have accepted. Willingly.” Every nerve ending in my body urged me to go to Josie, to let her take me and do with me whatever she wanted. A groan built in my throat, tension straining my limbs, most particularly, my crotch. Not now! The need to shift what grew sent heat to my cheeks even as Mac’s words played through again. Force yourself not to react to any of them. They’ll think you’re stronger than you are since you’re only human.

Only human. Problem number one.

Emi Gayle just wants to be young again. She lives vicariously through her youthful characters, while simultaneously acting as chief-Mom to her teenaged son and searching for a way to keep her two daughters from ever reaching the dreaded teen years.

Ironically, those years were some of Emi’s favorite times. She met the man of her dreams at 14, was engaged to him at 19, married him at 20 and she’s still in love with him to this day. She’ll never forget what it was like to fall in love at such a young age — emotions she wants everyone to feel.

Road Trip Wednesday #170 Best Books

YA Highway RTW

This week on Road Trip Wednesday, YA Highway asks the question:

What’s the best book you’ve read in February?

Hm … All of the books I’ve read in the month of February were great. I started off the month with Suzanne Collin’s THE HUNGER GAMES series, finished Lauren Kate’s FALLEN series with RAPTURE, read The 19th Year series, AFTER DARK and the sequel, DAY AFTER by Emi Gayle–both awesome–and I rounded out the month with Michael Scott’s final book in The Secrets of The Immortal Nicholas Flamel series, THE ENCHANTRESS. Lucky for me, my line edits haven’t begun on TIED, so I’ve had more free time to read everyone else’s stuff for a change.

There were two books I gave 5 Stars to in February — well, one book actually and one series of books.

THE HUNGER GAMES series by Suzanne Collins was truly an incredible, pull-you-in-and-refuse-to-let-you-go story, and for that reason, it was my favorite series for the month of February.

BUT … DAY AFTER by Emi Gayle, was my favorite book for the month.

Both of these reads, although YA, are completely different and therefore can’t really be compared against each other. Dystopian vs Urban Fantasy. I am, and have always been, the biggest fantasy fan, and DAY AFTER delivered for me in that category. It’s not due for official release until May, though, and you’ll have to read AFTER DARK first, too! 😉

So, you guys? Favorite books for February?

Check out YA Highways Road Trip Wednesday for more Best Books of February!

Between The Pages–DAY AFTER

I was planning to continue onto the last of Lauren Kate’s FALLEN series this week and end with her 4th and final book, RAPTURE, but then I got a really great surprise, so I’ll be pushing it back to next week’s read.

AFTER DARK was my book of choice last week (which I read, like practically everything, in about a day), and the release for the sequel DAY AFTER isn’t until May, so I was a little bummed to wait–until I got my ARC!! Ha! One of the best perks in my opinion as an author. So, without further ado (and sorry you guys have to wait until May for this awesome book–it’s worth the wait, though), I will be happily moving onto DAY AFTER, the 2nd book in The 19th Year series by Emi Gayle!

DayAfter

Demon crypts. Vampire lairs. Glowing angels. Sexy sirens. The stuff of fiction.

Or so Winn Thomas always thought.

Since being accepted into the fold of the supernatural, he knows better. None of what he imagined is true, but everything he feared is, and binding himself to his Changeling girlfriend until her nineteenth birthday will give him an education far beyond what he’d get at his human high school.

He intends to have her pick human.

Whether she can or not.

***I flew through this incredible book and rated it 5 Stars. Fantastic read!

Between The Story Pages–AFTER DARK

After finishing The Hunger Games in an almost obsessed sort of sprint to the end, I’m on to another YA series, The 19th Year. When I wrap my head around the Hunger Games and formulate my words for a review, I’ll post them over on goodreads.

Now: AFTER DARK, book one of The 19th Year, by Emi Gayle

After Dark

BLURB:

What eighteen year old Mac Thorne doesn’t know will probably kill her.

In exactly eight months, five days, three hours and thirteen minutes, Mac has to choose what she’ll be for the rest of her life.

She has no choice but to pick. As a Changeling, it’s her birthright. To Mac, it’s a birthchore. Like going to school with humans, interacting with humans, and pretending to be human during the pesky daylight hours.

Once darkness descends, Mac can change into any supernatural form that exists — which makes her as happy as she can be. That is, until Winn Thomas, the biggest geek in her senior class, figures out there’s more to what hides in the dark than most are willing to acknowledge.

In this first of the 19th Year Trilogy, Winn might know more about Mac than even she does, and that knowledge could end their lives, unless Mac ensures the powers-that-be have no choice but to keep him around.
