It’s been a while since I’ve jumped on Road Trip Wednesday. Been a little busy. đ
This Week’s Topic :Â What song would you love to see a book based on?
Being the huge music fan that I am, I could think of A LOT of songs that would make good books. I’m a YA dark fantasy writer, so I’m drawn to songs with a lot of … atmosphere. But I’m going to pick a wide variety for this post. Some may be more suitable for New Adult rather than Young Adult novels.
Tried to find the clean versionâcouldn’t. There’s some cussing, fyi, for anyone who might be offended.
Sera isnât living. Sheâs existingâbarely. Bedbound by illness, she has no memory of life before the freezing barn she now calls home. A mournful song haunts her dreams and hints at a past not completely buriedâone sheâs desperate to uncover. Yet Fatherâs whirlwind visits to draw blood and administer medication donât provide answers. He only confirms the one thing she already knows; sheâs dying.
A lonely death without ever knowing her past seems inevitable until a sudden, mystifying return to health coincides with the arrival of a boy in the opposite out-building. The inextricable pull to the stranger, and the broken memories that storm her mind when heâs near, warn of a history quite different to any she could have imagined. If sheâs to uncover the truth she craves, sheâll have to decide whether knowledge of the past is worth forfeiting her second chance at life.
Amaleen Ison is a married mother of one. She lives with her family in Hertfordshire, England, along with her cats (Oscar and Winston), guinea pig ( LouLou), and gerbils (Blackberry and Pumpkinseed). She writes Young Adult fantasy stories that meander into a variety of sub-genres.
As a child, Amaleen lived most of her life in her head. She imagined herself in mystical lands populated by the weird and wonderful. She still spends way too much time daydreaming, but now she writes about her imaginings and weaves them into stories. The fantasy element is always important, but more so the hodgepodge of emotions that arise from her characters first time experiences.
I was planning to continue onto the last of Lauren Kate’s FALLEN series this week and end with her 4th and final book, RAPTURE, but then I got a really great surprise, so I’ll be pushing it back to next week’s read.
AFTER DARK was my book of choice last week (which I read, like practically everything, in about a day), and the release for the sequel DAY AFTER isn’t until May, so I was a little bummed to wait–until I got my ARC!! Ha! One of the best perks in my opinion as an author. So, without further ado (and sorry you guys have to wait until May for this awesome book–it’s worth the wait, though), I will be happily moving onto DAY AFTER, the 2nd book in The 19th Year series by Emi Gayle!
Demon crypts. Vampire lairs. Glowing angels. Sexy sirens. The stuff of fiction.
Or so Winn Thomas always thought.
Since being accepted into the fold of the supernatural, he knows better. None of what he imagined is true, but everything he feared is, and binding himself to his Changeling girlfriend until her nineteenth birthday will give him an education far beyond what heâd get at his human high school.
Luckily, Winnâs not giving up, he wonât back down, and he definitely isnât going to run away with his tail between his legs. After all, only werewolves have tails. Right?
In this, the second of the 19th Year trilogy, Winnâs facing the challenge of one lifetime. If he doesnât learn the truth about mythological creatures, his girlfriend Mac Thorne wonât either. That means, in six months, when she chooses her final form, she wonât know what to pick.
Winn, though, has his own ideas about Macâs final selectionâplans she knows nothing of.
He intends to have her pick human.
Whether she can or not.
***I flew through this incredible book and rated it 5 Stars. Fantastic read!
After finishing The Hunger Games in an almost obsessed sort of sprint to the end, I’m on to another YA series, The 19th Year. When I wrap my head around the Hunger Games and formulate my words for a review, I’ll post them over on goodreads.
Now: AFTER DARK, book one of The 19th Year, by Emi Gayle
BLURB:
What eighteen year old Mac Thorne doesnât know will probably kill her.
In exactly eight months, five days, three hours and thirteen minutes, Mac has to choose what sheâll be for the rest of her life.
She has no choice but to pick. As a Changeling, itâs her birthright. To Mac, itâs a birthchore. Like going to school with humans, interacting with humans, and pretending to be human during the pesky daylight hours.
Once darkness descends, Mac can change into any supernatural form that exists â which makes her as happy as she can be. That is, until Winn Thomas, the biggest geek in her senior class, figures out thereâs more to what hides in the dark than most are willing to acknowledge.
In this first of the 19th Year Trilogy, Winn might know more about Mac than even she does, and that knowledge could end their lives, unless Mac ensures the powers-that-be have no choice but to keep him around.
I know, I know. It’s been foreverrr since I posted a new My Music Monday, so we begin again. đ
This week I’ve been painstakingly compiling, and scaling down, the massive playlist for TIED, book one of The Fire Born Novels. Originally this playlist had close to 50 songs. I’ve narrowed it down to 34. Since I have 32 weeks until the launch of TIED, I thought a teaser was in order to get the momentum started. So … I’m going to play a small sampling of what’s to come every Monday all the way up to launch day. I’ve decided not to put the songs in order of scenes/chapters, as I don’t want to give too much away, but the songs will be in order when the playlist goes live, and in full, on the 9th of September. ENJOY!
Happy 2013, everyone! I’m so excited about the new year.
TIED, the first book in The Fire Born Novels series, will be released September 9! And in preparation of that upcoming event, my blog will be undergoing a few changes.
In January I will be hosting an interview with fellow author, L.S. Murphy about her upcoming release, REAPER, a young adult paranormal romance/urban fantasy. I will also have a special cover reveal for fellow author, J.A Belfield’s upcoming release, CAGED.
In March I will host fellow author, Aimee Lane, for her SILENT ECHOES blog tour.
In addition, marketing will begin for the release of TIED, which will include the cover release, blurb, excerpts and more!
